A huge well done and thank you to eleven-year-old Caireann who recently swam 500m non-stop in 35 minutes at Runnymede Sports Centre, to fundraise for Gold Geese.
Caireann explains:
“I challenged myself to take on a difficult task – to be able to swim 500m to help Gold Geese who have helped many children across Essex and even my own brother Conall.
“This charity gives children new experiences and have been doing so for many years.
“One year ago, I struggled to be able to swim and had no self confidence, but everything has changed for me. From my determination, to how far I can swim, I worked up the courage to take on the Swimathon.
Her Dad Jim adds: “Caireann and I started swimming more over a year ago to build her confidence and as she improved she said it’d be nice to do something for charity and Gold Geese were the obvious choice.
“Apart from helping her brother Conall after his cancer treatment (and still do!), Caireann has also personally benefitted some of the things offered to siblings such as a day spa treatment and Santa’s Grotto and wanted to raise some money to help other families have the same experiences!
“We’re all so proud of her. When we started swimming again in February last year, I never imagined Caireann would be able to achieve what she’s done.
“In her own words, she lacked self-confidence and being able to take on this challenge has helped her massively.
“Gold Geese have been great support and to be able to give something back makes it all the more special and I’m especially proud that this was all Caireann’s idea as well. Thank you Katie and all at Gold Geese and I hope the money raised continues to help bring comfort and smiles to these awesome warrior children and families.
“Thanks so much to everyone who has donated!”
