Our founder, Katie, has just completed a six‑day solo trek across Essex to honour the memory of Gold children lost to cancer.
Katie set off from Epping Station with her lovely labrador Lulu and followed the Essex Way all the way to Harwich Lighthouse.
Over six days she covered 81 miles and walked a whopping 178,600 steps!
She originally planned to take eight days – one for each year Gold Geese has been supporting families – but powered through, camping along the route, and finished the challenge early.
And she’s raised nearly £2,000 to support families in Mid and South Essex.
Reflecting on the trek, Katie said:
“This is childhood cancer awareness month, and I decided to do this challenge, solo, to think about every Gold child we have lost and honour their wonderful families.
I feel honoured to provide families with bereavement support, but after eight years the grief is feeling heavy.
The trek was harder than I thought it would be, but the weather was fantastic and it was lovely to pay my respects to the Gold children we have sadly lost.”
