Know the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer

September is childhood cancer awareness month and we’re shouting even louder than usual about the signs and symptoms.

We even organised a huge convoy of yellow and gold cars (and even a tractor!) across Southend this weekend, to grab people’s attention and raise as much awareness as possible!

It was led by a very special car owned by one of our Gold families, whose son Aiden died earlier this year. On their request, by way of memorial we arranged for their family car to be wrapped in his beloved Pokemon and includes an illustration of him.

Aiden’s Pokemon car not only gives his mum and dad a beautiful reminder of their son every time they drive, but also helps us raise awareness locally. He was the lead in our convoy, leading the flock of yellow and gold behind him. We hope he can see just how missed he is and just how much he means to us.

The more people recognise the signs, the faster kids can be diagnosed and treated.

It can be hard to spot cancer in children.

Many symptoms are very common and seen in everyday illnesses. Experiencing one alone is rarely a sign of cancer. Trust your gut.

Go to your GP and don’t be afraid to ask for further tests if you think there is something really wrong with your child.

We support the Better Safe Than Tumour campaign. Their website has simple symptom checklists according to age.
