18-strong team aim to raise £1000 for Gold Geese as thank you for supporting 12-year-old Skye

This weekend a group of eighteen Essex friends from Rayleigh and Leigh are taking on the Chelmsford Half Marathon to raise vital funds for Gold Geese.

‘Team Skye’ is named after Skye Harris, the 12-year-old daughter of one of the runners, who has nearly finished two years of treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

They aim to raise £1000 for Gold Geese, as we have supported Skye and her family since her diagnosis in December 2021, and to help fund a dream holiday after treatment.

Team Skye includes six children who will run the 5k, including Skye herself, her brother Marley and four friends. Twelve adults, who are family and friends of Skye, will run 10k and the half marathon distance.

Christina Harris, Skye’s mum explains,

“This is going to be a real challenge for Skye as she is still having daily chemo and her immune system is extremely low at the moment.

“But she is determined to complete the race to raise money for other children fighting cancer like herself. All the children are very excited to support Skye and Gold Geese.

“I am beyond grateful for all those taking the time out of their family lives to train and help us raise as much as possible. The whole team is very dedicated and excited to run and together we hope to make a difference for all these children fighting every single day.”

“Gold Geese have been invaluable to us as a family and have been a constant support from day one on this heart-breaking journey. I honestly wouldn’t have been able to get this far without them.

“Although I could never repay what they have done for us as a family and for Skye, I’m going to try! Every penny goes towards helping local families fighting every single day for their child to survive.

“They support families emotionally, financially, help with hospital trips, offer families much-needed breaks. But most importantly, they put smiles on very ill children’s faces when they need it the most. They are simply incredible.”

Go Team Skye! Thank you so much for your support and best of luck for the event!
